Crosschapel – N81 improvements

Lads, you may be aware that the NRA is preparing a major upgrade of the N81 from Hollywood to Tallaght. Part of this involves bypassing Blessington, and they have come up with 3 or 4 route options.
Several of these go RIGHT THROUGH our rented lands at Crosschapel.
As part of phase 1 of the consultation process, about 12-18 months ago, I made a submission indicating our presence and concerns etc. Now they have progressed to phase 2 of the consultation stage, and they are STILL considering taking the route through our pitches, see here:
I had a call this morning from a cousin of mine, Peter Cahill, who lives on the Rathmore road, close to our entrance,. His main concern is that it’s very close to his home. Peter told me there are public consultation meetings (1) today at Poulaphouca House, 1pm-8pm, and (2) tomorrow at Avon Ri, 1pm-8pm. These are outlined on the website above, in the pdf brochure.
I urge you all to attend one or both to express our concerns re this route, which would have potentially devastating consequences for us. I plan to go to Poulaphouca House tonight for about 7pm, it would be great to have a large group of us to go at them together. If necessary, I’ll go to Avon Ri tomorrow evening as well.
Can you text me please if you can go with me this evening at about 7pm, meet outside Poulaphouca House Hotel.

  1. There’s a meeting in the Avon Ri at 8pm tomorrow, Tuesday 9th August, concerning the routes that are proposed for the new N81, particularly route 6. By all means come down and discuss your concerns about your pitches, homes etc.

    1. Thanks Ciaran…for note.I have been on vacation and missed this opportunity to voice our concerns. But we were represented at the Avon Ri and also when meetings were held in Hollywood.
Please feel free to post any upcoming meetings to this site and I,ll distribute them…Thx Tommy
