AUL Senior Sunday – Match 1, Sun. 21-08-11
Orchard Utd 0-4 Blesso 1sts
A great start to the new season for the 1st team, travelling to the AUL Complex and coming away with a comfortable win. On a super pitch, Orchard started well, and it took a while for Blesso to settle down and get the passing going.
After about half an hour, a lovely move down the right ended with Johnny Lynch slotting home the first goal, giving us a half time lead. Blesso upped the tempo in the second half, and David “Sads” Carroll scored a beauty of a free kick from 20 yards, followed by Adam Cullen scoring with his first touch soon after coming on. Mark Daniels wrapped it up with a sweet left foot strike from the edge of the box. Paul Corcoran was solid in central defence, and Philly Sheridan worked his socks off up front. All in all a good team performance, and steady debuts from youngsters Gary Mahon, Cian O’Neill and Paul Corcoran.
AUL Senior Sunday – Match 2, Sun. 28-08-11
Whyteleaf Utd 0-1 Blesso 1sts
Blesso travelled to Donaghmede on Sunday morning to take on a Whyteleaf side who had two wins from their first three games. We suffered a setback in the warm-up when Mark Daniels had to withdraw with a groin injury, and Derek Balfe stepped back in on his return. The home side dominated the first 10 minutes or so, but Blesso found their feet and some good passing movements almost led to a breakthrough. It eventually came after about 25 minutes when David “Sads” Carroll curled in another fantastic free kick from about 30 yards out, for Blesso to lead at half time. Whyteleaf pressed forward early in the second half, throwing their giant centre-back into attack, but Blesso weathered the storm and we created several chances of our own, from Paddy Carroll, Philly Sheridan and Johnny Lynch. 16 year old Thomas Donoghue came on for his debut and showed great composure to help Blesso hold out for a second valuable away win. James Nolan and Paul Allen were solid in the full-back positions, and a special mention for keeper Shane Breen who pulled off a couple of super saves to ensure the win.
