U16’s Managers Comments

Great start for our Under 16’s. In what must be a record score for a Blessington team, the newly formed U16’s ran out easy winners in their first match of the new season, beating a very weakened Park Celtic, 19 – 0. Park Celtic were without a 1st choice keeper and lost all confidence after 20 minutes. Jason Carroll scored 5, his replacement Leon Pollard hit 4, Conor Donovan, the captain on the day, hit 3 as did Jack Gilligan. Shane Browne, Calvin Hudson (2), and Calvin Gruber made up the rest.

Latest’s Update on Senior matches

AUL Nivea For Men Cup Round 1, Sun. 04-09-11
Blesso 1sts  1-0  Orchard Utd
A third clean sheet on the trot, as Blesso defeated Orchard for the second time in recent weeks. A young Blesso team, with five players 21 or under and another on the bench, started well and created several chances but to no avail. Orchard, with a few new players from last time, got into the game and had a few half chances themselves before the break. Blesso improved into the wind in the second half, and after an hour or so Gary Mahon put Johnny Lynch through to place it past the keeper into the net. The away team pressed again and had a couple of shots well saved, but Blesso held firm to ease into the second round. Phelim O’Shea and youngsters Gary Mahon and Thomas Donoghue all completed their first full 90 minutes of the season, and with a few regulars missing, Blesso were happy with the display.
Keith heads for Oz
The Club would like to wish Keith Nolan all the best as he sets off for Oz next week. Keith has been a mainstay in the first team for many years, though he’s still only mid-twenties. The fourth first team player to head for Oz in recent years, Keith will be sorely missed, and we’re sure he’ll get fixed up with a local club soon after he arrives in Perth.
Brano out of Action
Best wishes to David Branigan who dislocated his ankle early in last Saturday’s league game away to Donnycarney. Hope to see you back in action soon Dave!
Gav returns to Blesso
Great to see former Blesso player Gavin Dudley back home for brother Gareth’s upcoming wedding. Gav departed for Brisbane more than two years ago where he has linked up with other former Blesso stars Derek Keogh and Anthony Murphy. Derek lines out for Eastern Suburbs, while Gav and Anto play with Southside Eagles, along with Gav’s brother Keith. The lads are doing very well on and off the field, and all won League Winners medals with their clubs last season.
