BLESSO 3-1 ASHWOOD

This was always going to be a difficult tie for Blesso as Ashwood, although bottom of the table seemed to be only losing their games by the odd goal.Added to this Blesso were without the talents of Ben Fitzsimons, who has often had a huge say in the outcome of a game.

The game started out very evenly with both sides having to work very hard to carve out any chances.
Both defences seemed to be on their game.Dean O’ Connor went close for Blesso with a shot going just wide of the post. Ashwoods No. 4 seemed to be their best hope of scoring with a very athletic performance from midfield. Conor O’Toole was putting in tireless work for Blesso in central midfield until a clash sidelined him for a while. Luke O’Brien and Daniel Cooney were both excellent for Blesso at the back. The deadlock was broken by Ashwood on 12 minutes from a corner that seemed to just squeeze in by Blesso keeper Mikey O’Toole. The game continued with much the same tone until Sonny Simpson replied with a piledriver that the Ashwood keeper got a hand to but couldn’t prevent crossing the line, 1-1. After the tip off Blesso seemed to be the most likely to score next, as was the case when Luke O’Brien scored his first goal of the season with a cracker from 15 yards, 2-1 Blesso and half time.

The second half was more of the same, a tough battle for possession. Blesso’s midfield of Dean Neilan,Sean Broderick  and Emma Downes  working really hard without getting much reward for their effort. Jack Deniffe putting in a tough shift as the lone striker. Ashwood’s No.’s 4 & 5 trying with all their might to bring the scores level.
Dean Neilan created a half chance for Emma Downes who shot just wide. Blesso finally got their third goal on 14 minutes of the second half when a sideline ball whipped  in to the box from Dean O’Connor got a flick from Luke O’Brien who doubled his tally for the season and put Blesso 3-1 up.
Ashwood never stopped battling until the final whistle and might go away from this one considering themselves unlucky.
For the Blesso team, a really hard fought 3 pts,and a great all round team effort.

Great article in today’s Sunday Independent Sport by Marie Crowe on Strength and Conditioning for players and athletes. Well worth a read.

U10 Premier League Cup Result: Dalkey United 3-3 Blessington

This was the U10B’s last game in the U10 Premier League Cup. Blesso shot out of the blocks, despite losing Aidan Murphy in the warm up & worked the ball smartly down the right channel with some neat one-twos between Adam Stynes and Edward Carter and the first time cross was smashed into the net by Folu Ilori. However Dalkey are a strong physical side and they did not let the early set back get to them and got back into the game with a goal that Blesso goalkeeper Paddy Brady did well to get to but could not keep out. Seizing the initiative Dalkey rushed into a 2-1 lead with another goal fashioned from their strong midfield. However Eni Ilori restored parity with a trademark left footer a min before HT, 2-2. Blesso started the 2nd half really well again & within five minutes took the lead for the second time in the game with a really well worked goal – Eni Ilori on target again 3-2. Dalkey responded within five minutes to level the game with a breakaway goal. A few moments later Tadhg Murphy made a crucial tackle with the Dalkey forward bearing down on goal. Blesso were experiencing a nervy end to the game. Next Ryan Mahon, Thomas O’Leary and Cian Doyle managed to dispossess the lively Dalkey forward again at the edge of the box and fed Adam Walsh who made his way to the end line to put in a great cross which the Dalkey keeper did well to hold. It turned out to be the last chance of the game. Overall a fair result for two evenly matched teams who gave their all in a tough tackling game of few clear-cut chances. Blesso: Paddy Brady, Cian Doyle, Ryan Mahon, Séan Brien, Tadhg Murphy, Thomas O’Leary,Aidan Murphy, Edward Carter, Eni Ilori, Folu Ilori, Adam Stynes, Adam Walsh, Shane Sargent, Sam Gallagher.

U11b 4 Belmont 1

This proved to be a tight top of the table clash, for a long period the result stood at 1 nil, thanks to a Ryan Keogh thunderbolt from outside the box.The remainder of the first half was end to end and played at a frantic pace with neither team really getting the upper hand,in the 2nd though Blessington showed their metal and started to get a foothold in the game,a lovely one two with Cian McCarthy and Darragh Broe foster set up Ryan Mulvey to drill a low shot into the net to make it two nil.The third  closely followed when Tadgh Barrett set up Darragh Broe Foster to shoot low from the edge of the box.By now Blessington had the tails up and we driving forward for a fourth when a counter attack from Belmont caught the defense off guard and a lovely sweeping moved was rounded of by the Belmont striker.

With minutes to go and the game going from end to end Blessington sealed the game when Adam Obannayo struck a vicious low drive from the edge of the box to make it 4.In truth 4 goals to one probably flattered Blessington as Belomont posed real threat throughout the game and only for strong defending from Donnache Halpen,Eoin Kavanagh,Darragh and Conor Gilroy and man of the match Tadgh Miley the score would have reflected this..

Great result lads..

U10 Premier League Cup Result: Wayside Celtic 3-3 Blessington.

This was the first match this team has played on Astroturf at Wayside’s newly developed Jackson Park. Blesso started brightly & worked the Wayside keeper who had to get down well to save from Shane Sargent and then had to turn the ball around the post from great shots from Adam Walsh & Edward Carter. Against the run of play Wayside took the lead with a well worked goal.  Wayside upped their tempo and added a second some minutes later. However Blesso refused to give up & Folu Ilori & Adam Stynes went very close just before HT but Blesso finished the half 2 down. Blesso started the 2nd half with an attacking formation & got the reward they deserved. Blesso full backs started to forage forward & earned a corner, which was hit with pace by Edward Carter which the Wayside keeper could not hold. 2-1! Blesso continued to surge forward clearly sensing an equalizer wasn’t far away & Eni Ilori made no mistake in front of goal after some great work by Ryan Mahon, 2-2! Wayside edged ahead again (3-2) in the dying minutes but Blesso weren’t leaving Jackson Park empty handed. Wayside failed to clear properly after another well hit corner and as David Akavickas steadied himself for the shot at the edge of the box, he was dragged down. Edward Carter placed the ball, picked his spot and watched as the ball hit the back of the net to draw his team level for the final time! Overall a fair result. Blesso: Paddy Brady, Cian Doyle, Ryan Mahon, Séan Brien, Tadhg Murphy, Thomas O’Leary, David Akavickas, Aidan Murphy, Edward Carter, Eni Ilori, Folu Ilori, Adam Stynes, Adam Walsh, Shane Sargent, Sam Gallagher.

Results – Blessington FC U9A

U9A Result-Blessington AFC 2-1 Brookfield Blesso started well again today with a reshuffled pack, as goals have been hard to find in the early part of the season. We had the majority of the posession in the first half but found ourselves a goal down at half time. The second half started brightly again for Blesso but we were still waiting for our first goal of the season until Sonny Simpson cut in from the left wing and hit a belter of a shot goalbound. The Brookfield keeper could only parry the shot into the path of newly positioned striker Dean O Connor who was on hand to cooly slot the ball into the net 1-1. Blesso piled the pressure on again after the tip-off and added the second goal 5 minutes later when Ben Fitzsimons ran onto a through ball from Jack Denieffe and finished brilliantly from an acute angle,2-1 Blesso. After the tip-off Brookfield dusted themselves down and went chasing the game, pressing hard with some excellent play from their No.10. Blesso’s excellent keeper Mikey O Toole and stalwart defender Luke O Brien met their challenge every time.At the end of the game Blesso were the one’s looking for the final whistle to be blown as Brookfield continually pressed for the equaliser although Dean Neilan will consider himself unlucky not to be on the scoresheet with an excellent finish from distance just after the ref blew the whistle for full time. All in all, a great team effort from the Blesso team and a well deserved three points.
BLESSO-Mikey O Toole, Ben Fitzsimons, Dean Neilan, Luke O Brien, Daniel Cooney, Sean Broderick, Emma Downes, Dean O Connor, Jack Denieffe, Sonny Simpson,Conor O Toole.
