Bray 5 Lakeside 10

This was as good a game as the result showed. This was the turn of the Community Games and Lakeside were drawn to play away in Bray, there was no fewer than fourteen of the sixteen panel from Blessington AFC playing for Lakeside tonight against a team from Bray made up of players from Ardmore and St Josephs, and you could see that from the off, with the kids well used to playing with each other.

The first half straight from the off was all Lakeside, with chances galore falling in around the bray goal and the Bray defense struggling to keep up with the pace of the lakeside midfield and strikers.Daragh Broe Foster grabbed two quick goals to kick off the proceedings the second an absolute peach, slotting the ball home from close range after some lovely build up play with no fewer than six lakeside players involved, his first was more of an individual affair with a lovely curling shot from just inside the box, Shane McGarry was next up with a fine goal, influential Mark Chapman had a great shot parried by the Bray keeper only to see Shane fire in the rebound.Adams grabbed the next and Lakesides fourth, when he cut inside the defense and fired a fierce shot into the net to make it 4-0. Bray rarely got out of their half and with Jeff Kemmy marshaling his defense brilliantly along with Cian McCarthy, Tadgh Miley and Liam Broderick Lakeside looked very comfortable, and it was maybe this comfort that caused the lapse in defense and allowed Bray to get their goal, with a long ball out of defense catching all of lakeside flat footed the Bray striker followed through and slotted the ball by Ian Coughlin in goal. After this though normal service presumed and Lakeside scored another four goals in quick succession, Keelan Sherrit fired a lovely bending shot into the net from outside the box and then Sean O’Rourke lifted a beautiful chip over the keeper after being sent straight through from Adams.Mark Chapman then made it seven when he followed up his own blocked shot to lift the rebound over the keeper and the scoring was still not over. Mark Chapman having a fine half rounded off the first half rout with another fine strike after again some lovely build up from the lakeside midfield. ( H-T 1-8)

The second half was never going to be easy after Lakeside made five changes at half time, and it showed for the first fifteen minutes when Bray totally dominated, in this period they grabbed 3 goals all identical to each other, long balls played over the defense and there strikers latching onto the through balls for tap ins. In fairness to Lakeside this was to be expected after such a fine first half and all the changes made at half time, it was always going to be tough to get going again. But get going the did with Adam running down the wing and fired a low ball over the box the ball bounced up and Ryan Mulvey did brilliantly to head the ball into the goal, Pauric Keogh then had a perfectly good goal chopped off for being offside and then Liam Broderick was unlucky not to score from a corner with a fine header.Bray were growing into the second half and it was more of an even affair, and their impressive striker grabbed his third after a brilliant run from their winger, he slotted the ball home from close range from the through ball. Adams was then unlucky with a shot that hit the side net and then Bray got their fifth goal of the game with an identical goal to the first three, long ball over the top catching the make shift defense out and their striker grabbed his fourth with a lovely shot inside the box. with only miutes to go Lakeside got their tenth goal when Ryan Mulvey  followed up a great shot from Mark Chapman which was saved by the keeper, Ryan blasted the rebound into the net. (F-T 5-10)

From the off Lakeside looked a real good outfit and by halftime this game was well and truly over, allowing the coaching staff to make wholesale changes, due to the kids Blessington commitments in the SDFL tomorrow. As this was their first game together, it makes it all the more impressive and it will take a real good team to beat this side on this kind of form…Well Done Guys
