Moon Cetic U12A 3 – 3 Blessington U12B

They say there is no love lost between neighboring counties Wicklow and Kildare and that seemed to be the evident in this rip roaring friendly played last night, Straight from the off both teams went out with real purpose and endeavor and in the end a draw was probably just about a fair result,

Blesso started the brighter, with Cian, Adams and Tadgh Miley pulling all the strings in midfield and we were unlucky not to go one up when the referee adjudged  Adams offside when he latched onto a through ball from Cian and stroked it past the keeper, Cian McCarthy in particular was giving the Moon defense real headaches an from one of his long mazy runs he again played a lovely through ball to Daragh Gilroy, unfortunately for him, just as he steadied himself to shoot the Moon defender did brilliantly to nick the ball off his foot. Half way through the first half and Moon started to pose a threat, their first real chance was a long pile driver the Ian Coughlan did brilliantly to dive and save and then not long afterwards the break through came for Moon, a long ball out of defense was again not dealt with by the Blesso defense and left the Moon striker baring down on goal, Daragh Clarke in pursuit of the striker accidentally clipped the boy as he steadied himself to shoot and a penalty was awarded, the little striker got up dusted himself down and slotted the peno home with some style (1-0). This seemed to spur Blesso on, and Ryan Keogh was unlucky with a free kick saved well by the Moon keeper, again Cian laid another fine ball through this time to Adams, but his shot was weak and easily saved. Just as it was nearing halftime Blesso got the reward their persistence had deserved, when Tadgh Miley playing his usual storming Captains role, took on three defenders broke clear, he rounded the keeper and from a narrow angle slotted the ball coolly in off the post. (1-1).

The second half started at the same frantic pace and with the rain lashing down, both teams started to struggle a bit with their passing game due to the conditions, Moon seemed to deal with the conditions slightly better and controlled the midfield from the off, another long ball lead to Moon’s second goal with Blesso Defense pondering who was going to deal with the bouncing ball, the Moon midfielder sneaked in between them and and headed the ball over the on rushing Blesso keeper (2-1). Moon now were in full control and half chances kept falling their way, again Ian Coughlan pulled off a fine save from a shot from the edge of the box, and he followed this up with another fine save from a similar shot from closer range. Again Blesso rallied and Adams drove into the box beat two players and squared a lovely ball to Daragh Broe Foster, the little guy steadied himself and hit a ferocious shot into the net to bring the sides level again (2-2). Adams normally on the wing switched to the middle of the park and was causing Moon all sorts of problems, another fine run saw Adams set up Ryan Mulvey for a shot only for the Moon defender to block, Eoin Clarke picked the ball up and threaded it out to Cian McCarthy who drilled his shot into the side net. This time it was Moon to rally and under some severe pressure came their third goal. after some neat play in the middle of the park, the ball was laid on to their midfielder at the edge of the box, first time he struck a wicked curling shot that flew past our keeper (3-2). But this only deemed to rally our Blesso kids again and with three minutes to go the got the equalizer. Cian McCarthy picked up the ball in his own half and ran past one defender,  he rounded the next defender and drilled in a low ball across the box where little Daragh Broe Foster was positioned, Daragh took the ball in his stride beat his marker and bent a lovely shot high into the net. (3-3).

This was a cracker of a game, played out in great spirit and no less skill, by two teams hell bent on winning the game…Great Stuff Lads !!!!!!
