Its a new year and a new FAI 5s league is starting this January nationwide. The FAI 5s leagues are now the most biggest small sided leagues in the country with the best referees, great prizes and of course the amazing opportunity for recreational footballers to play in Aviva Stadium this summer.
I’m looking to spread the word to the local community and to local businesses that there is a local league for them to play in. Can you please forward this poster/email to all your friends/colleagues that might be interested. Hopefully a team from our town will get the amazing experience of playing in Aviva stadium.
There are different divisions for different standards, and the cost is from €40 per game, or just €5 per person.
If you only have half a squad and would like to play, then speak to the 5s organisers and they will find you a few players to make sure that you can play league this season.
Check out www.5s.ie or call the 5s organisers on 0818501555 to find out more details about the competition/blitz in our county.

Blessington travelled to Donnybrook for the return match against Division 1 leaders and Champions elect Beechwood. But unlike the first game this was far less convincing and in fairness Blessington especially in the second half gave a great account of themselves against quite frankly a brilliant football team, whose touch, passing and movement is superb for their age.
The first 15 minutes of this half was an even enough affair with both defenses making it difficult for either team to score. Beechwood had the first real chance of the match, when some lovely inter play between their midfield left a gaping hole in the Blesso defense in which the Beechwood striker exploited to great effect picking up the inch perfect pass he drove his first time shot just past the post. Blesso pressed forward and Tadgh Miley was unlucky after a last ditch tackle blocked his shot after a brilliant mazy run into the box. Blesso were finding it hard to create anything with only really Chris Murphy coming close to scoring when the Beechwood goalkeeper cleared the ball just as he ran in to head it home.At the other end though Beechwood were creating chance after chance and the inevitably the Blesso defense starting to creak under the constant pressure. Two near misses were followed up by a good save from Ian Coughlan as shot after shot rained into the box, Blesso were getting deeper and deeper and were not clearing their lines handing possession of the ball away far to easily. Another shot and another block this time from Chris saw the Beechwood striker pick up on the indecision in the Blesso defense and crash the ball home from close range (1-0). The second came swiftly after this as Blesso defense again pushed the panic button again when under pressure, Tadgh Miley tried to clear the ball out of his box, but again only got as far as the Beechwood striker, who again fired a shot high into the net (2-0). Beechwood were now flying and Blesso seemed to be on the ropes another fine ball out of defense from Beechwood caught the Blesso defense napping, Eoin Clarke failed to clear and their little midfielder ran onto the loose ball, again indecision would cost Blesso as the midfielder struck his shot from each of box as the Blesso keeper remained on his line.(3-0) This really was a true reflection of how the first half went as Beechwood dominated completely after the initial 15 minutes and Blesso were lucky to go into the interval only 3 down. (H/T 3-0)
Blesso made a few changes in the second half and the reshuffle seemed to work well, with a renewed sense of purpose, the half time break really did seem to help Blesso’s cause.
Beechwood although still creating chances did not seem to carry the same threat and Blesso for the first time really starting creating real openings, Daragh Broe Foster was unlucky when his shot was blocked at the edge of the box and then Cian McCarthy had a shot well saved from the Beechwood keeper, at the other end Ian Coughlan pulled off a fantastic save when he pushed a fierce shot away to safety after the Beechwood striker broke clear through. Adams then did brilliantly to wriggle past three players before playing one two with Tadgh, unfortunately his shot went harmlessly by the post. Again at the other end beechwood fired a wonderful shot from edge of the box which flew inches past the post and a despairing Blesso Keeper. Then Blesso’s finest moment in the game happened, Tadgh Barrett played the ball out of defense and Cian McCarthy knocked it up to Ryan Mulvey who rolled the first defender and slid a quite brilliant pass into the path of Daragh Broe Foster, the little mans slid rounded the keeper a prodded the ball home to finish off a quite brilliant move(3-1). Adams not long after this should have made it two when he went clear through only to see his shot saved well by the Beechwood Keeper and Cian McCarthy who had a storming second half had another shot blocked in the box when it looked goal bound. The game after that fizzled out in the last 5 minutes understandably after the effort both teams had put into a great match. (F/T 3-1)
Beechwood deserved their victory of that their is no doubt,they will be worthy champions and quite possibly double winners, from what I have seen there will not be many teams that will beat this team on their day, A well run club, with good players and coaches. But from a Blessington perspective there is a lot of positives to be taken from this defeat, if we take goals conceded at the weekend, all were avoidable and were simple decision making mistakes, this gives us as coaches something to work on. But more satisfying than this was our second half display, their is a real unity with these kids and they play wholeheartedly for each other. We have skill in the team to match determination and on our second half performance we have shown glimpses of what I have always known, We have the makings of a really good side…On a whole I am extremely proud of these kids and what they have achieved to date. Well Done Guys.
Another weekend of shock results saw WBA squander a 0-2 lead with 20 minutes to go, eventually losing 3-2 to Reading. Tottenham could not break down a rejuvenated QPR and likewise Everton and Swansea played out another draw..This all means that all 5 players went out in week 7, the pot of 580 will now be shared equally amongst all the players…Congrats to all
5 winners are;
