Blesso’s Fantastic Four

Cabinteely U12’s 1 – Blessington U12B 4

Blessington were up against Cabinteely for the second time this season, with the last game  being won comfortably by the home team, it was now Blesso’s turn to travel to the fabulous Kilbogget Park in Killiney to face Cabinteely’s in their home grounds.

Cabinteely got the better of the first 10 minutes and should have been one up when their striker missed a great chance after being slipped clear through on goal, this served as a warning to the Blesso kids, who reacted brilliantly with a complete onslaught on the Cabinteely goal, Daragh Broe Foster should have made it one up with a great solo effort denied by the impressive Cabinteely keeper, next up the keeper thwarted a fine strike from Tadgh Miley from the edge of the box with a great finger tip save.  Again Blesso broke from the back in numbers with Tadgh Barrett playing the Ball wide to Patrick Cunningham the little midfielder slipped a fine pass through to Daragh Broe Foster who beat two players and fed a great ball across the box were Ryan Mulvey met full on and drilled it into the net(0-1). we had not long  to wait till Blesso grabbed their second. Adams who was causing all sorts of problems picked up a great ball from Cian McCarthy and drove into the box past three defenders as the keeper came to close him down, Adams unleashed a fierce shot that flew past the oncoming keeper (0-2), Blesso had further chances to increase their lead when  they squandered a host of chances and also Daragh Broe Foster was also unlucky to be deemed offiside when he raced onto a Ryan Keogh threw ball and slipped in into the net. Cabinteely remained plucky and kept trying to get forward at every opportunity and just before halftime they were unlucky not to half the deficit, when their striker latched onto a loose pass from the Blesso defender, ran clear into the box he unleashed his shot, Ian Coughlan in the Blesso goal was equal to the shot and saved well. Right before half time Adams and Ryan Mulvey both squandered good chances to extend Blesso’s advantage. ( HT 0-2)

Blesso drove on in the second half  but again spurned chances kept this game tight, Adams missed a great chance again with the goal at his mercy he managed to knock it past the post, Ryan Mulvey then proceeded to miss two chances in quick succession, first one from close range in which the Cabinteely keeper did well to save and then again the keeper did well to save his short from the edge of the box after being put through by Cian, Blesso were in complete control, but were still missing chances, Cian McCarthy had a lovely whipped shot that just went by the post and next up Daragh  hit his shot straight at the keeper from close range. Ryan Mulvey soon afterwards though grabbed his second and probably the goal of the game, when after some fine individual work from Conor Gilroy and a sublime pass into his path, Ryan took the ball down brilliantly in his stride and unleashed a great shot that left the keeper with no chance (0-3).  Adams then wrapped up the points and put some gloss on the Blesso performance when from a corner kick by Cian McCarthy, Chris Murphy managed to get his head to the ball in the crowded area and direct it towards goal, the keeper who had a fantastic game managed to parry the ball away only to see the lively Adams prod the rebound into the net (0-4). Tadgh Miley should have made it five with a fine effort that hit the side netting and Blesso were also denied a clear penalty when Adams was clipped in the box. Right at the death Cabinteely scored a consolation goal in which their performance deserved when their lively striker hit a rebound first time high   and past the despairing Blesso keeper (1-4)

Another fine win for out kids, if we can get a bit of momentum going now we are starting to look very strong, however we need to be more ruthless in front of goal. Well done to Cabinteely for keeping this game competitive for long periods and working tirelessly when not having  the ball for those long periods in the game.

Blesso U12’s hit St James for six

Blessington U12B  6  v St James 2

Our U12B team got their first taste of action in over 2 months against a St James team who were going well in the division and were only narrowly beating 5-4 by the excellent Beechwood. On a rare sunny day in Crosschapel the Blesso kids really did rise to the challenge,

From the first whistle  St James looked the stronger on the ball, passing around neatly without really creating to many chances, Blesso on the other hand were struggling to string to passes together and  the lack of game time was really starting to show, St James first real effort came on about the 5th minute when one of their midfielders launched a long ball over the Blesso defense, as the striker raced onto it Tadgh Barrett made a great last ditch tackle to prevent the score. Another long range effort from James was saved comfortably by Ian Coughlan, Blesso too started to create some half chances of their own, Daragh Broe Foster was slipped through brilliantly by Adams but a last dash tackle prevented the little winger from scoring, Tadgh Miley was next up but his effort was blocked in the six yard box and knocked to safety. Their was a real sense of stalemate in this period with both defense cancelling out the other teams attacks and it was completely out of the blue with the opener did arrive, scruffy play in the middle of the park with both teams losing possession repeatedly led to the ball breaking kindly to Cian McCarthy, he slipped a neat pass to Adams who like early sliced the James defense open with a great through ball, little Daragh Broe Foster was to make no mistake this time and clipped a lovely shot passed the oncoming keeper. (1-0). This was the catalyst Blesso needed and from then on, there really was only going to be one winner, Ryan Keogh had a great shot blocked on the line and Chris Murphy was unlucky with a header from a corner, Blesso were really turning the screw now and from another corner came the second, Daragh Broe Foster swung in a lovely cross only for Ryan Mulvey’s effort to be blocked the ball broke kindly to Timmy Miley and he coolly slotted home from 6 yards out,(2-0). St James rallied slightly after this and had a couple of longer range efforts, but could not really find a way past the Blesso back four and the goal keeper who were all in commanding form, and if the second goal had served to rally James the third purely served to knock the stuffing out of them,  the provider this time was Ryan Mulvey with a super pass through the James defense Adams latched onto it and rounded the keeper brilliantly to finish off a brilliant effort. No sooner had the ball hit the net, the referee blew the whistle for half-time (3-0).

The second half started in familiar fashion to the first with Blesso doing all the pressing and James going deeper into their own half to protect their goal, we did not have long to wait for a fourth courtesy of Daragh Broe Foster,   Cian McCarthy who had terrorized the James defense all day went on another mazy run sweeping passed three players he put and inch perfect ball in to the path of Daragh, the winger took the ball in his stride and slotted his shot past the keeper (4-0). Again James seem to rally briefly and from a long ball the got the goal the efforts deserved, another long ball this time not dealt with by the Blesso defense fell straight into the path of their striker he played a lovely one two with his striking partner and hit a low shot first time past the oncoming Blesso Keeper (4-1). The game went from end to end now and Blesso had two great efforts in quick succession, Timmy had an effort from the edge of the box whizz just by the post and then Tadgh Barrett had a shot from the edge of the box blocked on the line, Blesso pressure was about to pay off and from a free kick on Daragh Broe Foster we got our rewards for  constant pressure, Christopher Murphy placed the ball down a good 25 yard from the goal and whipped a superb cross which  the James keeper did well to parry, unfortunately the ball dropped to Finn Harney who took it down and hit first time from about six yards out, again the keeper saved, but Finn again followed up and this time made no mistake with his shot (5-1) to score his first goal for our team ( Well Done Finn!).
James rallied again and were unlucky not to grab a second with a flurry of chances in quick succession, slightly against the run of play Blesso grabbed a sixth and for his performance alone a well deserved goal for Cian McCarthy, The goal came about after a breakdown in a James attack Cian picked the ball up from an Eoin Clarke pass went pass another defender slipped a neat pass to Daragh Gilroy and took the return in his stride, just as the keeper came out to close the angle, Cian lifted the shot high into the net for a well deserved goal for his display(6-1), With minutes to goal James pulled back a consolation goal when their striker who looked a mile off side broke into the box and finished well past our keeper (F/T 6-2)

With our boys only having 2 games in the last 3 months this truly was a fine performance against a very organized and dogged James team…Well Done Boys
