Blessington U12A 2 – 4 Blessington U12B
This was the final encounter the season between the two U12 Blessington teams and it was always going to be a close affair, especially from what we saw in the last game between the two, when the B team nicked it by the odd goal.
From the off the B team settled better and Adams was unlucky from a few yards out when his shot was blocked by Blesso A defender, Tadgh Miley and Daragh Broe both had efforts that went just by the post and then Ryan Mulvey saw his whipped shot hit the bar and post with the keeper beat hands down. The B team were flying and it was no surprise when Adams opened the scoring when he brilliantly jinked between two player and from way outside the box unleashed a fierce shot that flew over the keeper. (0-1) Blesso B kept the pressure on and Conor Gilroy was unlucky not to score when he rounded the keeper only to run the ball out of play, the little man did not have long to wait though to open his account, when the Blesso A goalkeeper spilled a Cian McCarthy shot Conor pounced on it and slotted a great shot into the net. (0-2) Blesso B should have gone 3 up,when Ryan Keogh curled a fantastic shot just past the post. Blesso A chances were few and far between in the first half some long balls out of defense were dealt well with by Tadgh Barrett who marshaled his defense well. Missed chances were to be rued by the B team when a mistake just before half time let in little Sean O’Rourke and he slotted the ball away from the diving keeper into the net (1-2)
The second half kicked off and the impetus was now with the much buoyed A team who were now playing the ball about with some composure and style and in the midfield the A team were winning all the 50/50 battles, half chances were starting to be created. Two shots in particular in the first 5 minutes of the second half should have led to the equalizer with both chances whizzing past the post. The Blesso B team were starting to look nervy and you could see the confidence grow in the A team. A rash tackle outside the box led to the equalizer and definitely the strike of the game, when Liam Broderick, who stepped up to take the free kick and floated a fantastic shot high into the corner of the net. (2-2) This goal seem to spur the B team back into action and Tadgh Miley was unlucky when he dragged his shot by the post from just inside the post, Cian McCarthy then had a fantastic run were he beat the whole defense with his pace only to see his shot hit the side net. Daire Clarke hit the side net with a shot too and Patrick Cunningham blasted a fine shot just wide minutes later. With 5 minutes to go and the game heading for a draw, little Daragh Broe was brought down just inside the half way line, Cian McCarthy took the free and floated the ball into the box where Daire Clarke did really well to bring the ball down in tight space, he then laid a fine pass back to the oncoming Tadgh Miley who crashed his shot into the net. (2-3) As Blesso A pushed for the equalizer Cian McCarthy put the game beyond doubt with arguably the goal of the game, when he took the ball in his own half and beat all in-front of him, leaving himself one on one with the keeper he coolly slotted the ball past the keeper. (2-4) No sooner had the ball hit the net and the referee blew the final whistle to end a fabulous tie.
This was a marvelous advertisement for grassroots football, with both teams giving it their all and providing the parents and coaches who watched the game a great spectacle. The real winner here has to be Blessington Football Club whose future looks very bright if we can keep these kids in football..Well Done To All
