Belmont U12 0 v 5 Blessington U12B
Blessington had a comfortable morning in Herbert Park against an under strength Belmont team.
First half goals from Daragh Broe Foster and Adam Ogbannayo (two a piece) killed the game off as a tie, with Blesso closing the half leading 4 nil. The game started off promising enough with Belmont looking really up for it and Blesso always looked threatening on the break. The first chance of note fell to Ryan Mulvey but he shot wide after being put clean through from a fine ball by Cian McCarthy. Two chances followed in quick succession and both were squandered with Tadgh Miley hitting the side netting from close range and then Adams fired the ball against the keeper from six yards. Belmont kept plugging away without really creating any chances and it was no real surprise when Blesso broke the deadlock on 10 minutes. Daragh Broe grabbed his first of the game when he connected brilliantly from a Adams through ball ( 0-1). No sooner had we stopped cheering the goal than the second goal was being celebrated, this time Cian McCarthy provided a brilliant pass which cut the Belmont defense wide open, Adams found space and time to latch on to the pass and fire passed the on coming keeper (0-2). Blesso were going full tilt now and sensed Belmont’s heads had dropped, goals three and four soon to followed, the third was courtesy of another brilliant ball this time played over the defense which found Daragh in acres of space he unleashed a great shot that left the keeper with no chance (0-3) Adams completed the first half rout when he finished off a fine move with a low drive into the net just before the half time whistle was blown. ( HT 0-4)
The second half Blesso made numerous changes and Belmont seemed to benefit from this by dominating the opening 10 minutes. A couple of half chance fell to Belmont in the opening exchanges but each time the Blesso defense marshaled by Tadgh Barrett held firm. But after this early rally by Belmont normal service was resumed, with Blesso attacking wave after wave and chance after chance was squandered. Adams had a run beating three players, he drove into the box and hot a brilliant shot which the Belmont Keeper did well to tip around the post. Cian McCarthy had his long range effort saved well by the keeper. But Daragh Broe was to make no mistake with his third and Blesso’s fifth (0-5), when he drilled his shot from the edge of the box past the despairing keeper. The only remaining chance of note fell to Blesso after the ref gave a penalty when the Belmont keeper pulled Adams down in the box. Tadgh stepped up and blasted a fine shot which the keeper saved well.
Another fine performance by the boys especially Adams and Daragh Broe who notched 5 goals between them. but overall this was a fine performance from all our kids
