St James U12’s 1 – Blessington U12b 3
Blessington U12’s were on the road again as they traveled to face St James at St Benildus College in Kilmacud. This time at the request of a challenge match from James greatly received by Blessington.
St James started the better with a couple of early half chances, both being blocked in the box by the Blesso defense. Blesso defense struggled in the early period with the strong winds holding the ball up and making it impossible to control and with the biting rain swirling into the faces of the away team their normal passing game was not materializing. Cian McCarthy had a fine chance to open the scoring but dragged his shot wide from the edge of the box, Tadgh Miley repeated this feat from a similar position as Blesso started to gain some composure after the early onslaught from James. Another couple of chances where spurned by Blesso when Daragh Broe Foster went clear on goal and fired his shot straight at the keeper, Adams then followed this up when he to dragged his shot across the face of the goal. St James too had a great chance to open the scoring when Ian Coughlan pulled off a superb save from a half volley from the James striker. The last chance of the half fell to Tadgh Barrett who had a fine shot saved by the James keeper. ( H/T 0-0)
If the first half was an even affair the second was all about Blessington, who with the winds in their backs rallied superbly and took the game by the scruff of the neck. Tadgh Miley opened the scoring with a superb volley from the edge of the box which flew directly over the head of the James keeper (1-0)and not to be outdone Cian McCarthy soon followed when he dropped the shoulder and past one defender before unleashing a fierce shot which again flew over the James keeper (2-0), these were two superb strikes and with the confidence pouring through the Blesso team, chances started to be created with regular ease. Tadgh had a shot blocked when he could and probably should have put Ryan Mulvey through clear on goal, Ryan Mulvey then had a brilliant half volley saved superbly by the James keeper. Blesso dominance was however to pay off when Tadgh Miley rounded of a brilliant performance when he beat two players and shot low past the keeper from the edge of the box to make it three (3-0), he was again unlucky not to grab his hat trick when after beating two players in the box, he saw his shot rebound off the post . Adams then had two chances to make it four, firstly he say his shot blocked well by the James defense and then he spurned a great chance when he misfired wide with the goal at his mercy. James did grab a consolation goal near the end when the James striker was put clear through on goal, he slotted a fine shot past Ian Coughlan in the Blesso goal ( 3-1).
This was to be the last effort of a superb game played out in great spirit in difficult conditions. Well Done Guys.
