Blessington boys on fire in Dundrum

Dundrum Ath U13A 2 Blessington U13B 9

On what was our fourth attempt  in the first division the lads finally delivered on a crisp bright Sunday morning against Dundrum Athletic , The two teams started at a slow pace trying to sound out each other, With the midfield battle in full flow the Blesso lads seemed to have the edge, Tadgh Miley in particular seemed to have an extra yard of pace, So it was no surprise when he played Dara bro through on goal our little number seven made no mistake hit the ball straight across and scoring a beautiful shot into the corner. This was the first time this season that we have went into the lead in a match but unfortunately it didn’t last too long. Dundrum started to play and after a few shots Which were dealt with by a strong defense the breakthrough came from a corner. The ball was whipped across high Falling to a Dundrum forward who hit the ball clean enough but Iain Coughlan  was equal to it and saved well but the defense  did not clear and the same Dundrum player got off another shot this time giving the keeper no chance. Dundrum were now in the ascendancy but the Blessington defense with Padraig Keogh and Tadhg Barrett work rate was meaning that Dundrum began resorting to long range shooting. Blessington also had  chances with Ryan Mulvey getting in on the action Dara Gilroy going close as well as Cian McCarty and Tadgh Miley all hitting good shots that tested the keeper. With 10 minutes left Dundrum took the lead with a well made goal that our defense should really have cleared but not to take it away from the Dundrum player who hit the ball first time on the volley at the far post. We have always known that this team has a fight and spirit And so it proved with only minutes remaining in the first half, Ryan Keogh played the ball out of defense Cian McCarthy then slipped Dara Broe through on goal with the keeper coming off his line Dara shot past the keeper, The ball fell kindly to Dara Gilroy running in and he made no mistake putting the ball into an empty net. Half time Dundrum 2 Blessington 2.

People say football is a game of two half’s  and so It would prove, After some poor displays especially against Collinstown The Blessington boys just seemed to grow in stature in the second half. They started to believe in their ability and played as a team for the first time this season, The passing was faster quicker and The off ball movement was a delight . The goals just seem to flow first was Dara Bro foster who received a beautiful pass from Tadhg Barrett And chipped the advancing keeper, Cian then played a beautiful one two  with Tadgh  Miley and scored a very nice goal. At this stage it was one-way traffic and from a corner Dundrum  didn’t clear and unfortunately for them ended up scoring an own goal. Dundrum were in total disarray at this stage and looked like they had conceded a penalty when one of their defenders clearly handled  the ball in the box the ref just gave a kick-out. Blessington didn’t have long to wait for goal number six,   free-kick around 30 yards out and Dara Broe Foster decided he was going for it. which fooled  everyone including the Blessington coaches as we thought  he would float It in, the ball beat the keeper and looked a certain goal unfortunately it hit the bar and Dara Clarke was the first to react and scored from close range, The smile on his face was a joy to behold. Cian was now terrorizing the Dundrum defense his speed was too much and on one of these amazing runs he scored his second of the game. Dundrum did have a few chances but Eoin Clarke and Don Halpin Looked solid enough and coped very well, Conor Gilroy as usual was taken no prisoners and had a fairly solid performance. The goal of the game came courtesy of our captain as he beat at least four players Including one of his own to drive in a sweet shot that left the keeper stranded. At this stage all the Blessington team were trying to get in on the act and this very worryingly left gaps in our defense, Luckily enough Iain Coughlan was in no mood to concede another goal, Pulling off two fine saves to thwart   Dundrum. With minutes remaining Blessington got their ninth  another sweet move Which when Dara Clarke’s shot was rolling along the line Ryan Mulvey made sure by doing what he’s trained to do feeding off mistakes and playing to the whistle. We were apprehensive about this game before it started but boy did the lads do well with a great display hopefully the first of many.
