Blesso Under 14’s cruise to victory

Sunday 9th March 2014

Result: Whitechurch 2 – 6 Blessington U14B

On an unusual dry Sunday morning, Whitechurch U14, 8th in the SDFL Division 2, welcomed Blessington U14B, 2nd in the league, to Whitechurch Estate in Rathfarnham. These 2 teams have never met before and the outcome was difficult to predict. Whitechurch started the game the stronger side and put 2 early goals past Blessington goal keeper, Aaron Lipsett. Whitechurch were playing the better football and were unlucky not to go 3 up before halftime. Blessington missed a couple of chances and were rewarded with a well taken goal by Jamie Mahon just before half time. Blessington made 2 changes for the second half bringing on Jeff Kemmy and Jack Donovan. Within 5 minutes of the restart, Blessington scored 2 goals, another Jamie Mahon strike and a great piece of individual skill by James Beresford. The home side began to wilt and Jack Donovan assisted the next three goals from the visitors. Jamie scoring his hat-trick, James Beresford scoring his second and the sixth goal scored by Shane McGarry.
